Lloyd B. Volmar
March 6, 1925 near Westersville, Ohio. Graduated from
Westerville High School in May 1943. He excelled in music,
drama, and earned a letter in track.
was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps, July 24, 1943
at Fort Hayes, Columbus, Ohio and took basic training
at Fort Campbell, KY and Kessler AFB, Biloxi, MS. He took
cadet training at University of Chattanooga, 1943-44,
and then went through radio school at Scott Field, IL
and Radar School at Lincoln AFB, NE.
Upon completion, he joined Crew 44 at SHAAF, Salina, KS.
Further training ensued there including crew training,
Advanced First-Aid and further Loran instruction.
there it was the usual route - Batista Air Field Havana
Cuba - Herington, KS and finally to Mather Field, Sacramento,
CA, aerial port of embarkation for the Pacific. Crew 44
arrived at North Field Guam on April 12, 1945.
44 took lead crew training at North Field. They completed
their missions on 2 August. The following day the crew
went on rest leave to Honolulu. In short order, the two
nuclear bombs were dropped which shortly afterwards brought
the Pacific War to an end.

docking at San Francisco harbor. After a trip to Lockbourne
AFB, Columbus, Ohio, he was granted a 45-day furlough.
On November 23, 1945, Lloyd was mustered out at Greensboro,

June 1950, he married the former Jeanne Faye Kemmering
at David Lutheran Church, Canal Winchester, Ohio.
graduated from West Winchester High School in 1947 as
Valedictorian. From 1947-51, she attended Capitol University
receiving her B.A. upon graduation. Following postgraduate
studies at Texas Wesleyan College and Texas Christian
University, she earned Her master's Degree in Education-Supervision
and went on to teach in the public schools for 25 years
in Michigan, Ohio and Texas.
Volkmars have a daughter, Kim Leigh, who is married to
Leslie A. Orlidge. Lloyd and Faye have two granddaughters,
Jessica Leigh born in 1989 and Julia Leigh born in 1991.
has been a Lutheran Clergyman for over 40 years. We was
ordained as Pastor in the Ministerium of the America Lutheran
Church at Grace Lutheran Church, Westerville, OH on June
served Parishes in Ohio, Michigan and Texas and engaged
in radio preaching in Zanesville, OH. He taught violin,
ethics and religion and while doing postgraduate studies
in Ft. Worth, he was employed at United Services Planning
Association - a financial planning company. Former B-29
commander, Carroll H. Payne was
founder and President of the company.
has also authored a number of books, poems essays and
articles in numerous publications. He was the President
of Professional Research Associates and a member of several
organizations - church, civic, military, youth and business
oriented. He is listed in "Who's Who in Religion" (all
editions), "Who's Who in Texas, " and several other national
and international publications.
