Per General Orders No. 34 dated 10 September 1945 Issued by HQ 39th BG

PURPLE HEART AWARD:-By direction of the President and persuant to the authority contained in AR 600-45, dated 27 September 1943, as amended, and under authority delegated in 20th Air Force Regulation 35-16, dated 24 December 1944, the following officers and enlisted men, 60th Bombardment Squadron, 39th Bombardment Group, Army Air Forces, United States Army, having been wounded as a result of enemy action during a bombing mission against Hamamatsu, Japan on 19 May 1945 are awarded the Purple Heart:

Note: Regarding the mission date listed above - The actual order states "a bombing mission against Hamamatsu, Japan on 17 May 1945" records show that the Hamamatsu mission for this crew and others of the 39th BG (VH) took place on 19 May 1945. Therefore its believe the 17 May 1945 date stated in the order is just a typographical error on the part of the clerk in 1945.
